COURSE CURRICULUM

The Astrophysics program at DePaul University offers a focused and engaging curriculum that helps students understand the fundamental workings of the universe. Key coursework includes Cosmology, which explores the origin, structure, and evolution of the universe, introducing students to major concepts such as the Big Bang, dark matter, and the large-scale organization of galaxies. This course provides a broad perspective on how the universe began and how it continues to expand and evolve over time.In addition, Star Formation examines the processes through which stars are created from clouds of gas and dust in space. Students learn about the physical conditions required for star birth and how these processes influence the development of galaxies. This course helps build an understanding of the early stages of stellar evolution and the factors that shape different types of stars.Stellar Astrophysics further develops this knowledge by focusing on the internal structure, energy production, and life cycles of stars. Students study how stars generate energy through nuclear fusion, how they change over time, and what happens at the end of their life cycles, including phenomena such as supernovae and the formation of neutron stars or black holes. Together, these courses provide a comprehensive view of astrophysical processes, combining theoretical knowledge with scientific reasoning. This strong academic foundation prepares students for advanced research, graduate studies, and careers in astronomy, physics, and space science.
