COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Theatre Arts program is designed to give students a broad and flexible foundation in theatre while allowing them to explore multiple creative and professional pathways within the performing arts. Students begin with Script Analysis, which teaches them how to interpret plays by examining structure, character development, themes, and staging requirements. This course is essential for understanding how written text is transformed into live performance.History of Dramatic Literature provides students with knowledge of major plays, playwrights, and theatrical movements from different historical periods. This helps students understand how theatre has evolved over time and how cultural, social, and political contexts influence dramatic works. Dramatic Criticism further develops analytical skills by teaching students how to evaluate and interpret performances, scripts, and production choices from both artistic and theoretical perspectives.Directing introduces students to the creative and organizational aspects of leading a theatrical production. Students learn how to communicate artistic vision, guide actors, and coordinate with production teams to bring a script to life on stage. Design Workshop allows students to explore the visual and technical elements of theatre, including set, lighting, and costume design, helping them understand how different design components contribute to storytelling.Performance Workshop provides hands-on experience in acting and stage practice, helping students develop a practical understanding of performance techniques and collaboration in rehearsal environments.The program offers three concentrations: Standard, Directing, and Theatre for Young Audiences. The Standard track provides a broad exploration of theatre disciplines, while Directing focuses on leadership and creative direction. Theatre for Young Audiences emphasizes creating engaging and age-appropriate performances for children and educational settings.Overall, the curriculum combines theory, history, criticism, and hands-on practice to prepare students for diverse careers in theatre, including directing, arts administration, education, and creative production.
