COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Stage Management program is designed to build both the practical and organizational skills needed to manage professional theatre productions. Students begin with Introduction to Stage Management, which provides a foundation in the role of a stage manager, including rehearsal processes, production coordination, and communication within a theatrical team. Script Analysis teaches students how to break down a script to understand structure, cues, timing, and production requirements, which is essential for planning and organizing performances.Theatrical Collaboration focuses on working effectively with directors, designers, actors, and production crews, emphasizing teamwork and communication across all areas of theatre production. Students also progress through Stage Management I, II, and III, a sequence of courses that mirrors real production experiences and gradually develops advanced skills in scheduling, rehearsal management, cueing, and running live performances.Technical Production Practice I, II, and III provide hands-on experience with the technical side of theatre, including lighting, sound, set construction, and backstage operations. These courses help stage management students understand how different technical elements come together in a live production environment. Design Electives allow students to explore areas such as set, lighting, or costume design, giving them a broader understanding of the creative process and improving their ability to coordinate with design teams.Directing introduces students to the artistic decision-making process behind theatre productions, helping them better support directors and interpret creative vision.
