COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Sound Design program is structured to develop both technical expertise and creative ability in audio production for theatre and entertainment. Students begin with foundational classes such as Sound Technology I, which introduces the principles of recording, editing, and producing sound using professional equipment and software. Guide to Music Theory provides essential knowledge of rhythm, harmony, and structure, helping students understand how music supports storytelling and emotional impact in productions.A key technical component of the program is Applied Networks and Security, which introduces students to the digital systems and technical infrastructure used in modern audio and performance environments. Introduction to Vectorworks teaches industry-standard software used for technical drafting and design, allowing students to plan and integrate sound systems within stage environments effectively.Students also complete Design Production Practice I, II, and III, which provide progressive hands-on experience in real production settings. These courses allow students to apply their skills in live theatre environments, working on sound design projects from initial concept to final execution. Through these experiences, they develop problem-solving abilities, technical precision, and collaborative communication skills.The Design Internship gives students professional experience outside the classroom by placing them in real industry settings such as theatres, production companies, or entertainment organizations. This helps students build professional networks and gain insight into industry workflows and expectations.Overall, the curriculum combines technical training, musical understanding, and practical production experience.
