COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Spanish program is designed to help students develop strong language proficiency while also gaining a deep understanding of Spanish and Latin American literature, culture, and communication. Students begin with foundational courses such as Grammar and Communication and Conversational Spanish, which focus on building fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These courses help students become confident in everyday and academic use of the Spanish language.Composition develops advanced writing skills in Spanish, allowing students to express ideas clearly and effectively in structured academic and creative formats. Phonology and Phonetics focuses on the sounds of the Spanish language, helping students improve pronunciation, listening comprehension, and overall spoken accuracy. These language-focused courses ensure that students build a strong linguistic foundation.As students progress, they explore more advanced literary and cultural studies. Literary Analysis in Spanish teaches students how to critically read and interpret texts written in Spanish, while The Spanish Novel examines major works of fiction and their historical and cultural contexts. Latin American Literature expands this study to include diverse literary traditions from across Latin America, giving students insight into different voices, perspectives, and cultural experiences within the Spanish-speaking world.Overall, the curriculum combines language training with cultural and literary study, allowing students to become proficient communicators and critical thinkers in Spanish.
