COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Secondary Education program is designed to prepare future teachers with strong foundations in educational theory, instructional practice, and subject-area expertise. Students begin with core courses such as Educational Foundations, which explores the history, philosophy, and social role of education, and Pedagogy and Theories of Teaching and Learning, which examines how students learn and how teachers can effectively support different learning styles and needs.Curriculum Development focuses on how to design structured and meaningful lesson plans and academic programs that align with educational standards. Instructional Strategies and Instructional Delivery train students in practical classroom techniques, including how to present lessons clearly, manage classrooms, and engage diverse groups of students. Assessment Issues introduces methods of evaluating student learning, including testing, feedback, and performance measurement, helping future teachers understand how to support academic progress effectively.Research Methods equips students with the ability to study educational practices, analyze data, and apply evidence-based approaches to improve teaching and learning outcomes. The International Baccalaureate course prepares students to teach in IB schools by introducing globally recognized teaching frameworks and inquiry-based learning approaches.In addition to education-focused coursework, students choose a subject-area concentration that aligns with what they plan to teach in grades 5–12. Options include English, History, Mathematics, Social Science, Visual Art, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics, each available in either BA or BS pathways depending on the discipline. These concentrations ensure that future teachers have deep content knowledge in their chosen subject.Overall, the curriculum combines theory, practical training, and subject specialization to prepare students for real classroom environments.
