COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework in the Public Policy program is designed to give students a strong foundation in how policies are created, analyzed, and implemented to address real-world social, economic, and urban challenges. Students begin with core classes such as The American Political System, which introduces the structure and functioning of government, and Principles of Microeconomics, which helps them understand how individuals and markets make decisions that influence public policy outcomes.Courses like Public Policy and Urban Issues explore major challenges faced by cities, including housing, transportation, infrastructure, and social inequality, while also examining how governments respond to these issues through policy solutions. Advocacy and Lobbying focuses on how individuals, organizations, and interest groups influence government decisions and shape public policy through strategic communication and civic engagement.A strong emphasis is also placed on research and analytical skills. Quantitative Public Policy Analysis teaches students how to use data, statistics, and evaluation methods to assess policy effectiveness and make evidence-based recommendations. Digital Mapping and Community GIS introduce geographic information systems, helping students visualize and analyze spatial data to better understand community needs and regional policy impacts.Overall, the curriculum combines political science, economics, data analysis, and technology to prepare students for solving complex policy problems. Students learn not only how policies are made but also how to evaluate their real-world effects and propose improvements.
