The Media and Popular Culture curriculum offers a diverse and engaging set of courses that help students critically analyze and creatively engage with different forms of media. Through Comics Studies, students explore the cultural, artistic, and narrative significance of comic books and graphic novels, while Documentary Studies focuses on non-fiction storytelling and the ways real-world issues are represented through film. Fandom and Participatory Culture examines how audiences actively engage with media, creating communities, content, and shared meanings through fan practices.Film Studies and History provides a strong foundation in cinematic analysis, covering the evolution of film, key movements, and influential works. Film Studies in Rome offers an international perspective, allowing students to experience film and culture in a global context. Media Ethics is an essential course that addresses the moral responsibilities of media creators and the impact of media on society, helping students navigate complex ethical challenges in the industry. Television Studies and History explores the development of television as a medium, analyzing its cultural influence and storytelling techniques over time.In addition to core coursework, students can choose the Latino Media and Communication concentration, which focuses on the representation, production, and influence of Latino communities in media. This track provides deeper insight into cultural identity, communication strategies, and media practices within Latino contexts. Together, these courses and specialization options equip students with the analytical, creative, and ethical skills needed to succeed in careers related to media, entertainment, communication, and cultural studies.
