COURSE CURRICULUM

The Communication Studies program at DePaul University offers a well-rounded curriculum focused on developing strong speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills across a variety of contexts. Core coursework includes Business and Professional Communication, which prepares students for effective communication in workplace settings, and Public Speaking, which builds confidence in delivering clear and persuasive presentations. Interpersonal Communication focuses on one-on-one and small group interactions, helping students understand relationship dynamics and effective dialogue.Students also explore broader social and cultural dimensions of communication through courses such as Communication, Culture, and Community and Intercultural Communication, which examine how culture influences communication practices in diverse environments. Conflict Management teaches strategies for resolving disputes and improving collaboration in personal and professional settings, while Health Communication focuses on how communication is used in healthcare contexts to improve patient outcomes and public health messaging.Research Methods equips students with the tools to study communication scientifically, while Topics in Performance allows them to explore expressive and performance-based communication styles. The program also offers a Latino Media & Communication concentration, which focuses on representation, media narratives, and communication practices within Latino communities.
