DePaul University offers a highly experienced and industry-connected animation faculty as part of its BA in Animation program. The faculty is one of the largest full-time animation teams in the country, with members who have contributed to iconic productions such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, The Simpsons, Futurama, and Rugrats. Faculty members bring diverse expertise from feature films, television animation, game development, motion graphics, CGI, and art exhibitions, with professional experience at major studios like Disney Feature Animation, Nickelodeon Animation Studio, NBC Studios, and others.Notable instructors include Steve Socki, who has worked with networks such as Cartoon Network and continues to showcase films at international festivals, and Brian Ferguson, a veteran animator from Walt Disney Animation Studios known for his work on major Disney films. Amy Lockhart is another key faculty member whose work has been featured in international festivals, including the Ann Arbor Film Festival.Students also benefit from collaborative opportunities through game development projects, working alongside peers in design and programming. Many projects have gained recognition, including the indie success Octodad: Dadliest Catch. The LA Quarter program allows students to study and intern in Los Angeles, gaining hands-on experience with studios such as DreamWorks Animation and Nickelodeon Animation Studio.Additional enrichment comes through initiatives like the Visiting Artists Series, featuring industry leaders such as John Musker and Adrian Molina, and events like the Premiere Film Festival, which showcases top student work. Programs like Project Bluelight provide hands-on production experience, while the Animation Lodge student organization fosters collaboration, networking, and creativity through events like animation marathons. Together, these opportunities create a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for careers in animation, film, and game development.
