COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership program at Concordia University Chicago prepares experienced educators to assume non-administrative leadership roles within their schools and districts. The curriculum begins with Supervision and Improvement of Instruction, where students explore supervisory methods that enhance classroom teaching and promote teacher growth. In School Evaluation and Change Process, candidates assess instructional programs and apply change management strategies for school improvement. Curriculum and Assessment: Frameworks for Student Learning focuses on aligning curriculum with standards and utilizing assessment to support learning. Instructional Coaching and Mentoring introduces models for coaching and mentoring teachers to improve instructional practices. Providing Instructional Support examines the factors influencing student achievement, decision-making processes, and strategies that enhance learning and reform. Building Collaborative Relationships and Leading School-Based Professional Learning Communities focus on creating effective teams, managing resistance, and developing a collaborative school culture centered on student outcomes. Research in Education develops skills in interpreting and applying educational research to inform leadership decisions. School, Parents and Community Partnerships emphasizes the importance of building relationships with families and the community to support student success and foster a positive school environment. The program concludes with a 16-week Illinois Teacher Leader Practicum, where students gain hands-on experience in leadership within their school setting and complete a standards-based instructional improvement project.
