COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Intelligence Analysis (BIA) program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills needed to manage, analyze, and interpret data for effective business decision-making. The foundational course, BIA-2100: Foundations of Applied Business Analytics, introduces students to key concepts in data analysis, focusing on identifying, retrieving, cleaning, and manipulating data, while integrating business statistics, project management, and operations management principles. BIA-2200: Business Intelligence delves into how business intelligence drives market value and competitive advantage, teaching students the full business intelligence lifecycle through case studies and hands-on practice with platforms, databases, and analytical tools. This course also emphasizes data quality, regulatory compliance, and preparing data for various audiences. In BIA-3100: Data Management for Business Intelligence, students explore the intersection of big data and analytics, learning principles and technologies of data management across its lifecycle. They develop skills to create policies and systems that control and enhance organizational data assets. BIA-3200: Data Mining, Visualization, and Big Data for Business focuses on extracting meaningful information from large datasets, including applications in machine learning, social media, and marketing. Students also learn data visualization techniques to communicate insights effectively. The program culminates with BIA-4900: Capstone, where students either complete a research project or internship, applying their knowledge in real-world settings. Additionally, BIA-4910: Special Topics allows for in-depth study of emerging or specialized topics, while BIA-4950: Independent Study offers flexible credit for self-directed projects. Together, these courses provide students with a thorough understanding of business intelligence and analytics, preparing them to leverage data for strategic business success.
