COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Theological Languages major at Concordia University Chicago requires a total of 36 credit hours focused on mastering Greek, Hebrew, and either Latin or German. Core language courses include Greek I and II and Hebrew I and II, each building students’ proficiency in reading and interpreting sacred and historical texts. Students then select one two-semester language sequence in either Latin (Latin I and II) or German (German for Reading I and II), expanding their linguistic and cultural understanding. The program also includes 12 hours of advanced readings courses, such as Greek Readings in Johannine Literature, Intermediate Greek Readings, or Hebrew Readings I, allowing students to apply their language skills to the interpretation of biblical passages and theological works. At least six hours must be completed in Greek readings and four hours in Hebrew readings to ensure balanced proficiency. This 120-credit program, which integrates general education and electives, provides students with a well-rounded liberal arts education. Designed for those pursuing careers in ministry, education, or graduate study, the BA in Theological Languages strengthens students’ ability to analyze ancient texts and deepens their understanding of theology, scripture, and the historical foundations of faith.
