COURSE CURRICULUM

The PK–12 Spanish Language Education program at Concordia University Chicago requires 120 total credit hours, including 80 hours of major coursework that integrates general education, language study, and professional teacher preparation. Students must earn a grade of C or higher in all major courses. General education requirements cover communication, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, physical and life sciences, and theology, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation. Core education courses include Introduction to American Education, Media and Technology in the Classroom, Teaching in Diverse Classrooms, and Characteristics and Instruction of Exceptional Learners. Professional education courses emphasize teaching methodology, literacy instruction, assessment, classroom management, and ethics. The Spanish major component includes Intermediate and Advanced Spanish, Introduction to Spanish Literature, and Hispanic Linguistics, complemented by cultural studies such as Latin American Cultures and Hispanic Cultures in the United States. Literature and elective options allow students to deepen their study of Spanish language and culture. The program culminates in a 15-credit student teaching internship and seminar, providing real-world classroom experience at the PK–12 level.
