COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Psychology requires a total of 33 credit hours, organized across core courses, a capstone experience, additional courses, and electives. Core courses, totaling 12 credit hours, provide a foundational understanding of psychology, including PSY-1000 General Psychology, PSY-1502 The Mind and the Brain, PSY-2310 Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences, and PSY-2320 Research Methods. Students must then complete a capstone experience by choosing one of three options: PSY-4900 Senior Seminar in Psychology, PSY-4950 Independent Study in Psychology, or PSY-4990 Internship in Psychology, each worth 2 to 3 credit hours, emphasizing the application of research and critical thinking skills.In addition, students select one course from each of three areas, totaling 9 credit hours. Area A focuses on social and developmental perspectives with PSY-2100 Developmental Psychology: Life Span or PSY-2151 Social Psychology. Area B covers abnormal and personality theories with PSY-4605 Abnormal Psychology or PSY-4610 Theories of Personality. Area C focuses on cognition and the history of psychology with PSY-4415 Cognitive Psychology or PSY-4640 History and Systems of Psychology.Finally, students complete 9 credit hours of psychology electives, selecting any PSY course at the 2000-level or above to tailor their studies to personal interests or career goals. This curriculum ensures a comprehensive foundation in psychological theory, research, and applied practice.
