COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science at Concordia University Chicago requires a total of 120 credit hours, combining general education, electives, and major-specific courses. The major itself consists of 35 credit hours, beginning with a required seminar in one of the core sciences—biology, chemistry, or earth science—through BIO-4900, CHE-4901, or EAS-4901. Students then select 12 credit hours within one primary area of concentration, such as biology, chemistry, or earth science, and an additional 12 credit hours from a secondary area not previously chosen, allowing for interdisciplinary study and flexibility in focus. The remaining eight credit hours are drawn from courses with BIO, CHE, EAS, or PHY prefixes, providing opportunities to further explore physics or additional topics in the primary and secondary fields. Students pursuing pre-professional health science tracks are advised to choose minors in biology, chemistry, or physics to strengthen their preparation for medical or professional school, and up to nine hours of major coursework may count toward a departmental minor. Certain introductory courses—BIO-1201, CHE-1110, and PHY-1110—cannot be applied to the major. Overall, the program is designed to give students a strong foundation in multiple scientific disciplines while offering flexibility for professional preparation, research interests, or interdisciplinary study, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for advanced study or careers in science-related fields.
