COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in History at Concordia University Chicago is a 36-hour major that provides students with a broad and deep understanding of historical events, processes, and perspectives, preparing them for careers in education, research, public service, or further graduate study. The curriculum emphasizes writing, research, and analytical skills, beginning with a Seminar in Writing and Researching History and culminating in a Senior Seminar, along with specialized Topics and Readings courses. Students are required to take courses in American, European, and Non-Western history, ensuring a comprehensive global perspective. In American history, students may choose from courses such as Antebellum America, Contemporary America, or The American Religious Experience, while European history options include The Age of Reform, Rise and Decline of Modern Europe, or Europe in Our Time. Non-Western history courses cover African History, Twentieth Century World History, or Non-Western Historical Studies. Additional electives within the history discipline allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests and career goals.
