COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering is a graduate program designed to provide advanced technical knowledge and research training in the fields of infrastructure development and environmental systems. This program prepares students to address complex engineering challenges related to water resources, structures, geotechnical systems, and environmental sustainability. It is offered in both on-campus and online formats, making it flexible for a wide range of students, including working professionals and international learners.The program includes several specialized areas of study. These include environmental engineering, which focuses on pollution control and sustainable environmental practices; geoenvironmental engineering, which deals with the interaction between soil and environmental systems; and geotechnical engineering, which studies soil behavior for construction and infrastructure projects. Other important fields include groundwater engineering, hydrologic science and engineering, and water resources planning and management, all of which focus on the movement, quality, and management of water systems.Additional areas of specialization include hydraulic engineering, stream restoration, and river mechanics, which focus on river systems and flood management; irrigation and drainage, which support agricultural water use; structural engineering and structural mechanics, which involve the design and analysis of buildings and infrastructure; and wind engineering and fluid mechanics, which study the effects of wind and fluid forces on structures and environments.Students in this program can choose between two formats: a Master’s Thesis option (Plan A), which involves original research, or a Master’s Non-Thesis option (Plan B), which focuses more on coursework. This flexibility allows students to align their studies with their career goals, whether in research, industry, or public service.The program is available both on-campus and online through CSU Online, providing accessibility for distance learners. Additionally, students may qualify for an Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP), which allows them to complete their degree in a shorter time and at reduced cost. Overall, the program offers strong academic training and practical skills for careers in civil and environmental engineering.
