COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Exercise Science major offers students the opportunity to specialize through concentrations that provide focused academic training, hands-on experience, and preparation for specific career or graduate school pathways. These concentrations allow students to deepen their understanding of human health, movement, and wellness while tailoring their education to match their professional goals. Many students also use their concentration to build mentorship connections and secure internships that strengthen their readiness for life after graduation.One concentration is Exercise Science, which is a pre-professional track centered on the study of human movement. Students follow a science-intensive curriculum that includes kinesiology, chemistry, physiology, and anatomy. This concentration helps students develop a detailed understanding of how the human body functions and responds to physical activity. It is designed to prepare students for graduate or professional programs in fields such as medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, and scientific research. This pathway is ideal for those pursuing advanced study and clinical or research-based careers in health sciences.Another concentration is Pre-Nursing, which focuses on completing the foundational coursework required for admission into nursing school. Students build knowledge and skills related to human health, movement, and exercise science while also completing key prerequisites needed for nursing programs. This concentration provides a strong academic base for students planning to enter the nursing profession. It will be available starting in Fall 2026 and is designed to support students in transitioning smoothly into nursing education and clinical training.The Health Promotion concentration focuses on improving individual and community well-being through education and behavior change strategies. Students learn how to help people evaluate their lifestyles and move toward healthier habits. This concentration prepares graduates for careers in corporate wellness, hospital-based wellness programs, health clubs, military and tactical training programs, insurance wellness initiatives, and other health-promotion fields. It emphasizes both the science and practice of encouraging long-term healthy behaviors.
