COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agricultural Biology program offers concentrations that allow students to specialize in specific areas of interest within the major, providing both in-depth knowledge and practical, hands-on experience. Choosing a concentration helps students prepare for careers in targeted fields while also giving them opportunities to connect with mentors and gain valuable internship experience before graduation. One such concentration is Entomology, which focuses on the study of insects and their role in ecosystems. Students learn how insects influence ecosystem health, how they can be used as indicators of environmental conditions, and how to manage insect populations effectively, including the use of biotechnology.Another concentration is Weed Science, where students explore how weeds grow, spread, and impact agricultural and natural environments. This area emphasizes methods to control weeds in ways that reduce crop losses, lower fire risks in rangelands, and conserve important resources such as water. It also introduces modern biotechnological approaches used in weed management. The Plant Pathology concentration centers on the study of plant diseases caused by microbes and their effects on both crops and ecosystems. Students gain an understanding of how these microorganisms spread and learn strategies to manage them using both traditional agricultural practices and advanced biotechnological tools. Together, these concentrations provide specialized pathways that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to address real-world challenges in agriculture and environmental sustainability.
