COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology (M.A. in IDT) is a 30-unit program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to create effective technology-enhanced learning experiences in educational and business contexts. The program includes 18 units of required core courses, which provide a foundation in instructional design principles, research methods, and hands-on practice. These core courses include foundational studies, two levels of research in instructional design and technology, two sequential instructional design courses, and a practicum to apply learned concepts in real-world settings.In addition to core courses, students select 9 units of electives that allow them to specialize and explore areas such as e-learning design and development, multimedia production, technology integration, instructional technology seminars, and evaluation of learning systems. This flexibility allows students to tailor their learning to their professional goals and interests.The program culminates with a 3-unit capstone experience, which can be completed either as a comprehensive examination or as a master’s degree project. The comprehensive examination option requires students to complete an e-portfolio and take a written exam demonstrating mastery of instructional design and technology concepts. Students must successfully defend their e-portfolio prior to taking the exam and are limited to a maximum of three attempts. Alternatively, students may complete a master’s project, applying their knowledge to a practical instructional design challenge.Overall, the M.A. in Instructional Design and Technology emphasizes hands-on, student-centered learning, ethical and socially responsible practices, and the integration of technology to improve learning and performance. Graduates are prepared to lead instructional design initiatives, create engaging learning environments, and implement innovative technology solutions in a variety of professional settings, including K-12 and higher education, corporate training, and other organizational learning contexts.
