COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor’s degree in Economics requires the completion of 48 to 54 units within the major as part of the overall 120 units needed for graduation. The program begins with lower-division coursework, where students build foundational knowledge by studying introductory economic concepts such as microeconomics and macroeconomics, or by exploring broader perspectives on economic issues. These courses provide an essential understanding of how markets function, how economies operate, and how economic decisions impact individuals and society.At the upper-division level, students engage in more advanced and specialized coursework totaling 24 units. Core subjects include intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, money and banking, tools of economic analysis, and the history of economic thought. Students also develop strong writing and analytical skills through courses focused on economic communication and research. In addition, they select elective courses in areas such as political economy, economic development, public economics, labor economics, and international economics, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests.A key component of the program is the requirement to complete one of three concentrations: General Economics, Mathematical Economics, or Applied Economics. Each concentration provides a different focus. General Economics emphasizes flexibility and a broad understanding of economic theory and analysis. Mathematical Economics is more quantitative, requiring advanced coursework in calculus, statistics, and econometrics, making it ideal for students interested in data-driven analysis or graduate study. Applied Economics integrates business-related subjects such as accounting and finance, preparing students for practical roles in industry.Overall, the program offers a balanced combination of theory, quantitative skills, and real-world application, equipping students with the knowledge and expertise needed for careers in finance, consulting, government, and policy analysis, as well as for further academic pursuits.
