COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program requires a total of 92 units within the major and combines prerequisite coursework, foundational training, and advanced clinical education to prepare students for professional nursing practice. Before admission, students must complete 29 units of prerequisite support courses, including microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, and chemistry, along with statistics and general education courses in communication and critical thinking. These courses provide a strong scientific and academic foundation essential for success in nursing.After admission, students complete additional support coursework such as developmental psychology, followed by lower-division nursing courses that introduce foundational concepts and essential clinical skills. These early courses prepare students for more advanced study and hands-on patient care.The upper-division portion of the program, consisting of 52 units, forms the core of nursing education and focuses on both theoretical knowledge and clinical application. Students study health assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to understand the scientific basis of patient care. They then progress through specialized courses in adult and geriatric nursing, pediatric and family care, women’s and infant health, psychiatric and mental health nursing, and community and public health nursing. The program also includes coursework in nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice, ensuring students develop critical thinking and analytical skills.Advanced courses emphasize leadership and management in healthcare settings, as well as the integration of knowledge across all areas of nursing practice.
