COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences requires 56 to 78 units within the major, contributing to a total of 120 units needed for graduation. The program provides a broad, interdisciplinary foundation across biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Lower-division requirements, totaling 35 to 41 units, include an introductory STEM seminar, a statistics course, and a calculus course to build quantitative skills. Students also complete a sequence of biology courses, choosing from options such as introductory biology, microbiology, or human anatomy and physiology. In addition, they must complete a chemistry series, either a survey-level sequence or a more rigorous general chemistry track, as well as a two-course physics sequence with associated laboratory work. These foundational courses ensure students gain both theoretical understanding and practical laboratory experience across multiple scientific disciplines.At the upper-division level, students complete 9 units, including a Natural Science capstone course that integrates knowledge from different scientific fields. They also select a geology course focused on topics such as natural disasters or environmental issues, along with additional upper-division science electives in areas like biology, chemistry, health science, or kinesiology. These electives allow students to further explore specific interests while maintaining the program’s interdisciplinary focus.In addition to core and elective coursework, students must complete a concentration consisting of 12 to 28 units, enabling them to specialize in a particular area within the natural sciences. This flexible structure allows students to tailor their academic pathway according to career goals or personal interests.
