COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at CSUSB provides a comprehensive curriculum in human movement science, requiring 72–79 units for the major within the 120-unit degree. The lower-division requirements include courses in human anatomy and physiology, quantitative reasoning, introductory kinesiology, research seminar, and fitness or activity-based classes, providing foundational knowledge and practical skills. Upper-division courses focus on human movement principles, motor development, exercise physiology, motor learning, psychology and sociology of movement, and statistics in kinesiology. Students choose one of four concentrations—Allied Health Professions, Exercise Science, Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education, or Health Promotion—which tailor the program to specific career paths. The Allied Health Professions concentration emphasizes clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, chemistry, psychology, and field experiences, while Exercise Science focuses on exercise testing, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and applied kinesiology. The Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education concentration prepares students for teaching and coaching in diverse settings, including adapted physical activity and skill assessment for individuals with disabilities. The Health Promotion concentration integrates physical activity, nutrition, health behavior, epidemiology, social determinants of health, and technology applications, along with electives in public health, CPR, first aid, and fitness management. Across all concentrations, the program combines theoretical learning with hands-on experiences, research seminars, and internships to develop critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and effective communication skills. Core and concentration courses are offered primarily in-person at the Palm Desert Campus, with some electives available online or in hybrid formats. Graduates are prepared for careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, education, and wellness, or for advanced studies and professional certifications within the kinesiology and allied health fields.
