COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at CSUSB requires 120 total units and integrates foundational coursework in oral communication, English composition, critical thinking, and mathematics with a focus on criminal justice theory, research, and applied skills. Students complete 12 units of general education prerequisites, including oral communication, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning, all requiring a minimum grade of C. The program includes 55 units of major coursework, beginning with lower-division prerequisites in Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Criminal Law, and Introduction to Information Technology. Upper-division courses cover expository writing for social sciences, theories of crime, intelligence and crime analysis, crime prevention, research methods, statistics, crime pattern detection, and crime in public spaces, alongside opportunities for internships and independent study. Students must also select one of three 18-unit concentrations: Geographic Information Systems, Cyber Security, or Homeland Security. The GIS concentration focuses on spatial analysis, remote sensing, and web GIS, while Cyber Security emphasizes networking, applications development, penetration testing, and incident handling. The Homeland Security concentration includes policing, crime prevention, terrorism, transnational organized crime, and a political science elective. Additional elective courses may be taken in all concentrations to reach the required 120 units, and students must maintain a grade of C or higher in all required courses.
