COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology at CSUSB is designed to prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving fields of information technology, business analytics, cybersecurity, and national security. The degree requires a total of 120 units, with 64-65 units dedicated to major requirements, including lower-division courses, upper-division courses, and a concentration. The lower-division curriculum (25-26 units) provides foundational knowledge in statistics, information technology, computer networks, application development, database management, big data analytics, cybersecurity, and the legal environment of organizations. Students also complete three to four units of mathematics, which may include courses such as Modeling with Functions, Calculus, or Accelerated Preparation for Calculus, fulfilling general education requirements in quantitative reasoning.Upper-division courses (21 units) focus on advanced topics in information systems management, systems analysis and design, computer networks, web technologies, enterprise system administration, project management, and applied communication, equipping students with practical, real-world skills applicable to modern IT and business environments. In addition to these courses, students select a concentration consisting of 18 units. Concentration options include Business Intelligence and Analytics, Cyber Security, and National Security, each with specialized coursework that allows students to focus on their professional interests. For example, the Business Intelligence and Analytics concentration emphasizes data analytics, data mining, enterprise resource planning, and advanced database management, while the Cyber Security concentration develops skills in penetration testing, incident handling, and cybersecurity management. The National Security concentration integrates IT knowledge with policy and international relations courses to prepare students for careers in government, defense, or intelligence sectors. All concentration courses require a minimum grade of C (2.0) for degree completion. By completing this program, graduates gain the technical, analytical, and managerial skills needed to excel in diverse IT and technology-driven careers in both the public and private sectors.
