COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration at CSUSB is a 120-unit program designed to prepare students for leadership and management roles in public, private, and non-profit health care organizations. The program combines foundational knowledge in health sciences with practical skills in business, management, and health care administration, ensuring graduates are prepared to improve quality, efficiency, and access to health care services across diverse populations. Students develop competencies in areas such as operations management, human resources, information systems, strategic planning, marketing, finance, health policy, law, and ethics, providing a well-rounded preparation for the health services field.The degree requires 65 units within the major. The lower-division coursework (16 units) provides essential knowledge in accounting, microeconomics, health science principles, software applications, and statistics. Courses such as Introductory Accounting I, Principles of Microeconomics, and Introduction to Statistics in Health Sciences equip students with analytical and quantitative skills critical to managing health care organizations. Lab and applied courses in Health and Society enhance understanding of societal and ecological factors affecting health.The upper-division curriculum (43 units) focuses on advanced health services administration topics, including Operations Management, Biostatistics for Health Science, Human Resource Management in Health Care, Information Systems and Financial Management, Leadership, and Strategic Planning and Marketing in the Health Care System. Students gain practical experience through the HSA Internship, complemented by preparation courses such as Preparation for HSA Internship. Core courses in epidemiology and cultural competency ensure graduates can address the needs of diverse populations in professional practice.Students also complete 6 units of electives, allowing customization of their education. Elective options include Principles of Environmental Health, Global Health, Hospital Administration, Health Administration, Managed Care Systems, or independent study opportunities, enabling students to align their coursework with personal and career goals. All major courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C (2.0) to satisfy degree requirements. Overall, this program blends rigorous academics with applied learning to prepare graduates for professional success or graduate studies in health administration and related fields.
