COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at CSU San Bernardino is an interdisciplinary program designed for students who are passionate about promoting health and well-being across diverse populations. The curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in biological sciences, health policy, public health, nutrition, environmental health, and health services administration, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in healthcare, public health, research, or administration. The program is structured to allow flexibility, enabling students to tailor their degree to individual career goals or pre-professional pathways, such as nursing or physician assistant studies. Courses completed as prerequisites for these professional programs may also fulfill requirements for the BS in Health Sciences, providing a seamless transition for students pursuing advanced health-related degrees.The degree requires a total of 120 units, including 58–66 units specific to the Health Sciences major. Lower-division courses (14–15 units) provide foundational knowledge in public health, health sciences, statistics, and mathematics, ensuring students are prepared for advanced study. Upper-division coursework (21 units) includes core topics such as health services administration, environmental health, toxicology, nutrition, social determinants of health, and epidemiology. This combination of courses allows students to develop critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills relevant to modern health challenges.Students must also choose a concentration, either the General Health Science or Pre-Physician Assistant pathway. The General Health Science concentration requires 23 units, including 17 units of general science electives in Biology, Chemistry, and Health Science, along with 6 units of upper-division Health Science electives. This path provides maximum flexibility for students who may transition from Pre-Nursing programs or choose a broader health sciences focus. The Pre-Physician Assistant concentration (28–30 units) includes intensive coursework in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and advanced biology, preparing students for professional entry into physician assistant programs.Overall, the BS in Health Sciences offers a rigorous and versatile curriculum, blending core scientific knowledge with applied health studies and elective customization, preparing graduates for professional practice, further education, and meaningful contributions to the health sector.
