COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Science at CSU San Bernardino requires a total of 120 units for graduation, with 77 units dedicated to major-specific coursework. The lower-division curriculum, totaling 35 units, builds a strong foundation in chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and statistics, while also satisfying general education requirements. Courses include General Chemistry I and II with labs, Survey of Organic and Biochemistry with lab, Introduction to Physics I and II with labs, Modeling with Calculus, Introduction to Statistics in Health Sciences, and Microbiology for Allied Health Majors. Students must also complete a one-year sequence of biology courses, choosing either Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II or Principles of Biology I and II, for a minimum of 8 units.The upper-division requirements consist of 28 units, emphasizing applied environmental health principles, toxicology, epidemiology, occupational health, vector-borne disease control, and advanced environmental health management. Students also gain practical experience through a four-unit Environmental Health internship, preparing them for professional careers and certifications. In addition, six units of electives allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests within the field, with options such as Air Pollution and Radiological Health, Water Quality and Pollution Control, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health Engineering, Food-Borne Illnesses and Their Prevention, Bioterrorism and Emergency Response, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, and Management of Water Quality.This structured program ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them to work in a variety of settings, including government agencies, healthcare institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private industries. The curriculum also aligns with state and national accreditation standards, equipping graduates to pursue professional certification as Registered Environmental Health Specialists.
