COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science requires a total of 120 units for graduation, with 70 units specified within the major. The lower-division curriculum (34 units) builds a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics. Core courses include Introduction to Data Science with its lab, Computer Science I and II, Calculus I and II, Statistics with Applications, Applied Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, and Discrete Mathematics. These courses ensure students develop essential programming, analytical, and mathematical skills needed for advanced study and practical applications in data science.The upper-division requirements (24 units) focus on advanced mathematical and computational techniques, along with ethical and professional preparation. Key courses include Probability Theory, Linear Statistical Models, Special Topics in Statistics and Data Science, Machine Learning or Statistical Methods for Machine Learning, Numerical Computation, Data Visualization, Database Systems, and the Ethics Senior Seminar, which addresses responsible data use and decision-making. This sequence equips students with the ability to model, analyze, and interpret large and complex datasets while understanding the ethical implications of data-driven decisions.Additionally, students complete 12 units of electives, which may include upper-level courses in computer science, mathematics, or related disciplines that enhance data science expertise.
