COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (COEN) is a comprehensive 120-unit program that combines foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, and computer science with advanced coursework in computer engineering principles. The lower-division curriculum, totaling 39 units, builds a strong base in computer science and engineering fundamentals. Courses include Computer Science I and II, Machine Organization, and Calculus I and II, along with Applied Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Statistics with Applications. Physics is also a major component, with General Physics I and II, each accompanied by lab work, ensuring students develop the necessary analytical and problem-solving skills early in the program.The upper-division requirements consist of 44 units and focus on advanced topics essential to computer engineering practice. Students study Digital Logic, Signals and Systems, Contemporary Computer Architecture, Analog Circuit Design and Analysis, and Embedded Systems, along with Operating Systems, Computer Networking and Security or Data Communications, and courses in Computer Engineering Design. Specialized courses such as Digital System Design, Numerical Computation or Algorithm Analysis, Sustainable Engineering Design, and Robotics and Control provide students with opportunities to develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on technical skills.Additionally, students complete 9 units of electives from CSE 4000-level and above courses not previously taken, allowing them to explore areas of personal or professional interest and deepen expertise in specialized domains.The COEN program is designed to integrate theory and practice, preparing graduates for careers in hardware and software design, embedded systems, robotics, networking, and other fields within computing and engineering industries.
