COURSE CURRICULUM

The B.S. in Career and Technical Studies requires students to complete a total of 60 units across three main areas: Career and Technical Studies, Instructional Technology, and Entrepreneurship. In the Career and Technical Studies area, students complete 27 units, including 15 required courses such as Principles and Methods for Teaching Designated Subjects, Instructional Support for Teaching Designated Subjects, Principles of Career and Technical Education, Organization and Structure of Career and Technical Programs, and Topics in Career and Technical Education. An additional 12 units are chosen as electives from courses including Personnel Management, Field Work in Designated Subjects, Instructional Technology for Career and Technical Educators, Curriculum Development, Assessing Student Progress, Directing and Managing Occupational Programs, and Educational Research and Learning Theory.In Instructional Technology, students complete 15 required units designed to provide foundational knowledge and practical skills for integrating technology into educational settings. Courses include Foundations in Instructional Design and Technology, Foundations of e-Learning, E-Learning Design and Development, Seminar in Instructional Design and Technology, Instructional Design I, and Technology Integration in the Classroom. These courses develop both theoretical understanding and applied expertise in instructional design, technology-supported learning, and digital teaching strategies.The Entrepreneurship component consists of 18 units, including 15 required courses and 3 elective units. Required courses include Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Small Business Management, Ideation and Creative Problem Solving, Developing the New Venture, Resources for the Entrepreneur, and a Reflective Essay. Electives can be chosen from Business Consulting, Managing a Growing Business, Human Resources Management, Marketing Principles, and Professional Selling and Sales Management.Together, these three areas ensure that students develop a strong foundation in technical education, instructional technology, and entrepreneurial skills. The program emphasizes applied learning, practical experience, and professional preparation, equipping graduates to teach and lead in career and technical education, manage instructional programs, and create or manage business ventures. Completion of the 60-unit program provides the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for career advancement and leadership in a variety of technical, educational, and entrepreneurial settings.
