COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology requires a total of 49–50 units within the major as part of the 120 units needed for graduation. The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in psychological principles, research methods, and the scientific study of behavior and mental processes, while also allowing specialization through different concentrations. Students begin with core courses such as introduction to psychology, psychological statistics, research methods, brain and behavior, and an orientation to the psychology major. These courses help develop essential skills in critical thinking, data analysis, and scientific research. Students also complete an advanced culminating experience, which typically involves either an advanced seminar or experimental research course, emphasizing writing and independent inquiry.A major component of the program is the requirement to complete one of three 24-unit concentrations: General Psychology, Biological Psychology, or Industrial-Organizational Psychology. The General Psychology concentration provides a broad and flexible approach, allowing students to explore areas such as cognitive, developmental, social, and clinical psychology while tailoring electives to their interests. The Biological Psychology concentration focuses on the relationship between the brain and behavior, covering topics like neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and neuropsychiatric disorders, making it ideal for students interested in research or healthcare-related fields. The Industrial-Organizational Psychology concentration applies psychological principles to workplace settings, with coursework in organizational behavior, personnel selection, employee well-being, and workplace dynamics, preparing students for careers in business and human resources.Overall, the program combines foundational coursework, research training, and specialized study to equip students with analytical, research, and communication skills. It prepares graduates for careers in psychology-related fields, business, healthcare, and social services, as well as for advanced study in psychology or related disciplines.
