COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at California State University, San Bernardino is structured to provide a solid foundation in both theoretical and applied mathematics while allowing students flexibility for interdisciplinary study or a minor in another field. The degree requires completion of 58 to 61 units within the major, contributing toward the total 120 units needed for graduation. The lower-division requirements, totaling 25 to 26 units, include foundational courses in calculus, multivariable calculus, differential equations, applied linear algebra, and statistics, along with an introductory computer science course to develop computational and problem-solving skills. Upper-division courses, accounting for 18 units, focus on advanced mathematical reasoning, proof techniques, Euclidean geometry, number theory, real analysis, and algebraic structures such as rings and fields, with MATH 3100 also satisfying the upper-division writing-intensive requirement. The program further includes 15 to 17 units of electives, carefully structured to ensure exposure to at least three groups of mathematics topics, including combinatorics, graph theory, probability, differential equations, Fourier analysis, differential geometry, complex analysis, topology, and advanced linear algebra, with a minimum of two electives at the 4000-level or higher.
