COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Geology at CSUSB offers students a solid foundation in earth sciences with two distinct concentrations tailored to different career paths. The General Geology Concentration is designed for students interested in public service, education, or environmental advocacy. This track is ideal for those planning careers in government agencies, as park rangers, K-12 science teachers, non-profit organizations, or pre-environmental law. It provides maximum elective flexibility, allowing students to customize their coursework to match their personal and professional goals while gaining a broad understanding of geological principles.The Field and Applied Geology Concentration is intended for students who aim to work as professional geologists in environmental consulting, geo-technical firms, governmental agencies, oil and mining companies, or pursue graduate studies in geology. This concentration emphasizes applied courses, fieldwork, and experiential learning, preparing students to meet professional licensing requirements. Hands-on experiences such as mapping, mineral and rock identification, and environmental analysis equip graduates with the technical skills required for careers in geology and related fields.All geology majors must earn a minimum grade of C- (1.7) in required courses for them to count toward the degree. Electives must include at least three units of GEOL courses, and no more than three units may come from supervision courses. Students must choose one concentration and cannot receive credit for both. By combining rigorous coursework, field experience, and professional preparation, the B.A. in Geology equips graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for diverse careers in education, public service, environmental management, and professional geology.
