COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Systems requires 120 total units for graduation, with 60 to 67 units specific to the major. The program builds a strong foundation through 21 units of lower-division coursework, including introductory computer science, machine organization, and mathematics courses such as calculus, statistics, and discrete mathematics. Upper-division requirements (12 units) focus on applied computing skills and professional development, covering web application development, platform computing, software engineering, and an Ethics Senior Seminar, which also fulfills the General Education Writing Intensive requirement. Students complete nine units of elective coursework from advanced CSE courses, excluding select special topics, to broaden their knowledge.A key component of the program is the concentration, allowing students to specialize in one of three areas: General Interdisciplinary, Game Development, or System Administration. The General Interdisciplinary concentration (18 units) integrates three units of advanced CSE coursework with 15 units of study in another discipline, such as a minor or other cohesive program, approved by the School of Computer Science and Engineering. The Game Development concentration (25 units) combines advanced mathematics and physics with core courses in computer graphics, game programming, and game design, along with three units of supporting coursework such as 3D modeling, animation, or level design. The System Administration concentration (23 units) emphasizes computer architecture, digital logic, operating systems, database systems, and two levels of systems administration, along with three units of advanced elective coursework.Through this structure, the program balances theoretical foundations, applied computing skills, and specialized knowledge in the chosen concentration. Students gain hands-on experience in software development, game design, or IT infrastructure while also fulfilling professional and ethical competencies, preparing graduates for careers in software development, game design, IT systems administration, or interdisciplinary technology fields. The combination of core coursework, electives, and concentration study ensures both depth and flexibility, allowing students to tailor their education to specific career goals.
