ABOUT UNIVERSITY

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a public research university founded in 1965 and part of the California State University system. Located on a 441-acre campus in San Bernardino, with an additional 40-acre branch campus in Palm Desert, the university serves a diverse student population of over 19,000. It is classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity,” reflecting its strong emphasis on research and academic development. CSUSB offers a broad range of academic programs, including 123 bachelor’s degrees, 61 master’s degrees, two Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) programs with specializations in Community College and K–12 education, and 23 teaching credentials. The university employs over 500 full-time faculty members, many of whom are on the tenure track, ensuring quality teaching and research support. Recognized as a Hispanic-serving institution, CSUSB plays an important role in expanding access to higher education for diverse communities. Its athletic teams, known as the Coyotes, compete in NCAA Division II within the California Collegiate Athletic Association, with notable achievements in women’s volleyball and men’s soccer. The institution was originally established in 1960 as San Bernardino-Riverside State College, later renamed California State College at San Bernardino, and officially became a university in 1984. Today, CSUSB continues to grow, supporting a large alumni network and contributing significantly to academic, research, and community development.
