COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Science in Nursing program is structured to provide both core nursing knowledge and advanced role preparation, ensuring graduates are prepared for leadership, education, or specialized clinical roles. The program requires a total of 33 units, divided into core courses, advanced practice role preparation, and a culminating experience.The core courses, totaling 15 units, build a strong foundation in advanced nursing practice, research, leadership, educational program development, and community health policy. These courses include advanced role development in nursing, research as the foundation for advanced nursing, seminar in organizational and systems leadership, educational program development in nursing, and community health services and policy. Together, they provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze healthcare systems, develop evidence-based practices, and lead interdisciplinary teams in a variety of healthcare settings.In addition to the core courses, students complete 15 units of advanced practice role preparation. This component allows students to select a focus area aligned with their career goals. Students pursuing the advanced clinical or educator role complete coursework in advanced concepts in pathophysiology, pharmacology for advanced practice, advanced physical assessment across the lifespan, and practicum experiences in organizational and systems leadership or educational program development. Students choosing the school nursing role complete specialized courses in school nursing processes, advanced physical assessment for infants through adolescents, and related practicum experiences. This structure provides hands-on training and applied experiences tailored to the selected specialization.Finally, the program includes a 3-unit culminating experience course, which requires students to integrate and apply their knowledge through a thesis, project, or comprehensive professional experience. This component ensures students demonstrate mastery of advanced nursing concepts and skills prior to graduation.The Master of Science in Nursing program combines rigorous academic preparation, practical experience, and professional development to equip nurses for leadership positions in clinical, educational, and administrative roles. Completion of the program positions graduates for careers in advanced practice nursing, healthcare education, school nursing, and related fields requiring high-level expertise and leadership abilities.
