COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Sacramento State requires a minimum of 30 units, combining core courses, electives, and a culminating experience. Students complete 11 units of required core courses, including Research Methodology (EEE 201), Electrical Engineering Computational Methods and Applications (EEE 244), and two additional core courses selected from Microwave Engineering, Analog and Mixed Signal Integrated Circuit Design, Linear Systems Analysis, Modern Power Transmission Systems, Digital Communications, or Micro-Computer System Design I. Beyond the core, students select electives from five specialized areas—Communication Systems, Control Systems, Power Systems, Microelectronic Design, and Computer Architecture & Digital Design—allowing them to tailor their studies to professional and research interests. Elective courses cover advanced topics such as lasers, fiber optic communications, digital signal processing, machine vision, robotics, power system reliability, wind energy conversion, VLSI design, high-speed digital systems, and hierarchical digital design methodology. The program concludes with a culminating experience, which may be completed as a thesis (Plan A, 5 units), a project (Plan B, 2 units), or a comprehensive exam (Plan C, 0 units). The program is structured to provide flexibility for working professionals while ensuring a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and applied engineering skills. Students gain expertise in analyzing, designing, and implementing complex electrical and electronic systems across multiple sub-disciplines, preparing them for professional practice, research, or doctoral study. The combination of core courses, specialized electives, and culminating experience ensures graduates are equipped to advance in areas such as communications, control, power systems, microelectronics, and computer design, while developing problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills essential for leadership in the field.
