COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Computer Engineering requires completion of 30 to 32 semester units, combining required core courses, breadth courses, electives, and a culminating experience. The 12-unit required core courses include Research Methodology (CPE 201), Hierarchical Digital Design Methodology (CSC/EEE 273), Computer Systems Structure (CSC 205), and Advanced Topics in Logic Design (EEE 270), providing students with foundational knowledge in computer and electrical engineering principles. Students must also complete 6 to 12 units of required breadth courses, covering at least two areas from five categories: Algorithms and Applications, Computer Architecture and Digital Design, Microelectric Design, Networks and Security, and Systems Software, ensuring exposure to both CSC and EEE disciplines. Additionally, students take 3 units of a CSC elective and 3 units of an EEE elective, selected from breadth courses or other approved 200-level courses with prerequisites. The program concludes with a culminating experience, which can be completed through a thesis (Plan A, 5 units), a project (Plan B, 2 units), or a comprehensive exam (Plan C, 0 units), depending on the student’s chosen path. Plan A requires a minimum of 25 units of coursework, Plan B requires 28 units, and Plan C requires 30 units, all including the core, breadth, and elective requirements. This structure ensures that graduates develop both theoretical and applied expertise in computer engineering, including hardware and software integration, system design, and advanced analytical and technical skills, preparing them for professional practice, research, or doctoral study.
