COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Political Science at California State University, Sacramento requires a total of 30 units and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of political systems along with strong research and analytical skills. The program includes 18 units of required coursework, beginning with foundational classes in political science methods and academic writing, which help students develop critical thinking and effective communication abilities. Students are then required to complete courses across major subfields of political science, including political theory, international relations or comparative government, and California government and its political environment, ensuring a broad academic foundation. In addition, students must take one more course from any of these subfields to further strengthen their knowledge. Beyond the core requirements, students complete 9 units of additional coursework by selecting a concentration in one of three areas: political theory, California and its political environment, or international relations/comparative government.
