COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology requires students to complete a combination of lower division, upper division, and concentration courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of human movement, sport, and physical activity. The program begins with 8 units of required lower division courses that focus on Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II. These courses introduce students to the structure and function of the human body and provide an essential scientific foundation for understanding how body systems support movement and physical performance.Students then complete 23 units of upper division courses that explore key concepts in kinesiology and sport science. These courses include kinesiology research and practice, the history and philosophy of physical education and sport, and the sociology of sport, which examine the social and historical aspects of sport and physical activity. Additional courses such as sport pedagogy, exercise and sport physiology, applied kinesiology and biomechanics, motor learning and control, and sport and exercise psychology provide scientific and behavioral perspectives on human movement, performance, and skill development. Together, these courses help students understand how physical activity affects the body and how individuals learn and improve motor skills in sport and exercise settings.In addition to the core coursework, students must select one of five concentrations that align with their academic interests and career goals. These concentrations include Athletic Care, Athletic Coaching Education, Physical Activity and Wellness, Physical Education Teacher Education, and Sport Management. Students pursuing the Athletic Administration concentration complete 29 units of specialized coursework focused on the management and business aspects of sport.Within the Athletic Administration concentration, students complete required courses in leadership and communication, sport and fitness management theory, coaching theory, and field experience in coaching. These courses help students develop leadership abilities and practical experience in sports organizations. Students also complete 18 units of electives selected from areas such as leadership and communication, budgeting and fundraising, marketing, and event planning. These elective options allow students to develop business and organizational skills related to sports management.
