COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering program requires students to complete a total of 92 units consisting of lower division foundational courses, upper division core courses, a design project series, and specialized electives. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong background in mathematics, science, and engineering principles while gradually introducing advanced topics in electrical and electronic systems. During the first two years, students complete 38 units of lower division coursework that establish the technical foundation for the program. In the freshman year, students study subjects such as General Chemistry for Engineering, Introduction to Engineering, Calculus I, Calculus II, and General Physics: Mechanics. These courses introduce the fundamental scientific and mathematical concepts required for engineering study. In the sophomore year, the focus shifts toward engineering fundamentals and electrical engineering concepts. Students take Computational Methods and Applications, Introduction to Logic Design, Calculus III, and General Physics: Electricity and Magnetism. They also complete Introductory Circuit Analysis and Differential Equations for Science and Engineering. These courses help students develop analytical and computational skills while introducing them to the behavior of electrical circuits and systems. The upper division portion of the program includes 33 units of advanced coursework taken primarily during the junior and senior years. Students study key subjects such as Network Analysis with laboratory work, Applied Electromagnetics, Signals and Systems, and Engineering Economics during the first semester of the junior year. In the following semester, students take Electronics I with a laboratory component, Power System Analysis I, Introduction to Microprocessors, Introduction to Feedback Systems, and Probability and Random Signals. These courses provide deeper knowledge of electrical circuits, communication systems, control systems, and electronic devices. During the first semester of the senior year, students study Modern Communication Systems, which further expands their understanding of communication technologies.A significant part of the program is the design project series, where students choose between two specialized pathways. The Power Design Project Series focuses on power engineering and includes Power System Analysis II, a Power System Laboratory, and a two-course Electrical Power Design Project sequence. Alternatively, students may select the Product Design Project Series, which includes Electronics II followed by Product Design Project I and II. These project sequences allow students to apply their engineering knowledge to real-world design problems. In addition to the core curriculum and design project series, students must complete elective courses that allow them to specialize further in particular areas of electrical engineering. Students select lecture and laboratory electives within areas such as analog and digital electronics, control systems, communication engineering, or power engineering. This combination of foundational study, advanced technical coursework, hands-on laboratory experience, and design projects prepares graduates for professional careers in electrical and electronic engineering or for further graduate study in the field.
