COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography program at California State University, Sacramento offers several specialized facilities and resources that support students in developing both technical expertise and creative skills in photographic practice. One of the key features of the program is its well-equipped digital laboratory, which provides students with access to advanced Macintosh computers and professional-grade software used for digital image editing and production. The lab also includes large-format inkjet printers that allow students to produce high-quality photographic prints, as well as film and flatbed scanners that enable the conversion and processing of both digital and analog photographic materials. In addition to digital facilities, the program provides an alternative photographic process facility and a fully equipped chemical darkroom where students can explore traditional film development and printing techniques. A dedicated studio lighting facility is also available, allowing students to experiment with professional lighting setups and develop skills in studio-based photography.Another important feature of the program is the extensive equipment collection available for student use. Photography students can check out a wide range of professional equipment to support their coursework and creative projects. This equipment includes small, medium, and large format cameras, as well as a variety of lenses suited for different photographic styles and techniques. Students also have access to tripods and portable lighting equipment, which allow them to work effectively both in studio environments and on location. This access to professional tools enables students to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard photographic equipment.The program also encourages students to display and share their creative work through exhibition opportunities. A dedicated Design Department gallery located on the fourth floor of Mariposa Hall regularly hosts exhibitions featuring student photography and design projects. These exhibitions allow students to present their work to the campus community and the public, helping them gain experience in professional presentation and critique.
