COURSE CURRICULUM

The clinical psychology curriculum requires between 37 and 40 credits and is designed to give students both a strong foundation in research and practical training in evidence-based clinical methods. The program includes 28 credits of required coursework covering key areas of clinical psychology, research, and statistical analysis. Courses such as PSYC 501 DBT Skills Training and PSYC 532 Behavioral Clinical Methods provide direct training in therapeutic strategies, while PSYC 510 Psychopathology builds a comprehensive understanding of mental health disorders. PSYC 521 Clinical and Research Ethics emphasizes ethical considerations in both practice and research, and PSYC 533 Program Evaluation trains students to assess the effectiveness of clinical interventions. A strong focus on measurement and methodology is provided through PSYC 552 Psychometrics, PSYC 560 Statistics I, PSYC 562 Statistics II, PSYC 567 Statistics III, and PSYC 564 Advanced Research Methods, which together build advanced competencies in data analysis, experimental design, and hierarchical modeling. To complement the core requirements, students complete six elective credits by selecting one of several two-course sequences that allow for specialized focus. Options include advanced quantitative methods such as Meta-Analysis paired with Structural Equation Modeling, or therapy-focused sequences such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy with Suicide Risk and Assessment, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Suicide Risk and Assessment, Principles and Techniques of Adolescent Therapy with Family Therapy, or Psychological Trauma Concepts with Trauma Assessment and Intervention. These electives provide opportunities for students to tailor their learning experience toward research-intensive tracks or applied clinical practice, depending on their professional goals. By combining rigorous statistical training, ethical grounding, and specialized therapeutic methods, the curriculum equips students to become effective clinical researchers and practitioners prepared to work with diverse populations and complex psychological challenges.
