COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program requires students to complete eight core courses, totaling twenty-four credits, that build both technical expertise and leadership skills. Information Technology Management introduces students to the strategic role of IT in organizations, focusing on system design, process improvement, project management, and change management enabled by technology. Data Management emphasizes the importance of organizational data as a resource, providing training in relational database design, data modeling, and manipulation using structured query language. Software Planning and Development explores the full life cycle of information system creation, from planning and analysis to design and implementation, while also introducing modeling processes such as data flow diagrams and user interface design. Data Communications and Networking covers the foundations of computer and communication networks, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, wireless networks, and strategies for deploying telecommunications technologies within organizations. Project Management equips students with the skills outlined in the Project Management Institute’s body of knowledge, covering all phases of the project cycle, knowledge areas, and best practices, with opportunities for practical application through team-based projects. Information Security prepares students to address vulnerabilities and risks in modern information systems by examining topics such as cryptography, application security, risk management, forensics, and network defense, with hands-on use of security tools. Data Analytics introduces students to machine learning methods and data analysis techniques, enabling them to detect patterns, classify information, make predictions, and support decision-making with data-driven insights. Together, these core courses provide students with a comprehensive foundation in IT systems, data handling, security, analytics, and project management, while fostering the ability to apply technical knowledge in ways that drive organizational success and innovation.
