COURSE CURRICULUM

The educational leadership program is structured across four terms, combining coursework, fieldwork, and applied research to prepare students for administrative roles in schools and districts. During the Summer Term, students focus on foundational leadership skills with EDLD 550: Focusing on Student Achievement and EDLD 568: Organizational Leadership and Public Education, alongside hands-on experience through EDLD 591A: Fieldwork and the beginning of their applied inquiry in EDLD 510A: Action Research for Practitioners. The Fall Term builds on this with EDLD 570: Curriculum Leadership and Program Evaluation and EDLD 580: Organizational Transformation: Leading for Learning, complemented by continued fieldwork in EDLD 591B and research application in EDLD 510B. In the Winter Term, the emphasis shifts toward governance and resource management through EDLD 504: School Law and Public Policy and EDLD 572: Managing Resources, while EDLD 591C and EDLD 510C ensure that students continue to connect theory to practice through field experience and research. The Spring Term culminates the program with EDLD 502: Current Social, Cultural & Political Issues, which deepens students’ understanding of the broader context shaping education, and EDLD 598: Action Research for Practitioners, where students complete a comprehensive research project addressing real challenges in their professional setting. Together, these courses create an integrated learning journey that blends leadership theory, policy, resource management, curriculum development, and practical fieldwork, ensuring graduates are well prepared to assume leadership positions such as principal, director, or superintendent while driving meaningful improvement in student achievement and organizational effectiveness.
