COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Management degree requires a total of 46 to 48 credits, with at least 38 credits at the upper-division level. The program combines foundational business knowledge with specialized sports management coursework to prepare students for careers in the dynamic sports industry. Core business courses include Principles of Accounting (BUS 251), Financial Information in Business Organization (BUS 253), Behavior in Organizations (BUS 367), and Statistical Methods (ECON 311), providing a strong base in essential business concepts. The sports management curriculum covers a wide range of topics crucial to the field, such as Introduction to Sports Management (SPMG 347), Sports-Related Marketing (BUS 411), Ethical and Legal Aspects of Sports (SPMG 322), Global Social Issues in Sport (SPMG 340), and The Business of Sports (SPMG 488). Practical experience is emphasized through the Internship course (SPMG 492), which offers 2 to 6 credits and allows students to gain hands-on experience in real-world sports settings. The program culminates in a Capstone course (SPMG 497), where students integrate and apply their knowledge to complex industry issues. Additionally, students select one elective from a diverse set of courses to tailor their education to their interests. Options include Event Planning and Management (BUS 443), Sports, Media and Society (COMM 317), Broadcast Sports Production (COMM 404), Sport Psychology (PSYC 338), Sport Analytics and Research Methods (SPMG 411), and Sports Facilities, Design and Management (SPMG 417).
