COURSE CURRICULUM

Students must complete between 66 and 69 credits, with 26 to 28 credits at the upper-division level, plus 12 supporting credits, totaling 78 to 81 credits. Core required courses include Functional Anatomy and Lab, Exercise Physiology and Lab, Biomechanics and Lab, Motor Development, Exercise Prescription, Statistics and Research Methods, and a Capstone course. Foundational biology and chemistry courses are also required, including General Chemistry I and II with labs, and introductory biology courses. Students must choose between two physics sequences (either General Physics or Physics for Scientists and Engineers). Additionally, 7 to 8 credits are selected from advanced courses like Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Advanced Biomechanics, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, and several psychology courses related to development and exercise. Supporting courses from outside the department include Human Anatomy and Physiology with labs and General Psychology, with Anatomy and Physiology being prerequisites for key Exercise Science courses.Human Performance EmphasisThis emphasis requires 60 credits minimum with 38 credits upper division and 16 supporting credits, totaling 76 credits. Required core courses overlap with the Health Professions track, including Functional Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Motor Development, Exercise Prescription, Nutrition, Motor Learning, Advanced Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercise Psychology, and a Capstone course. Chemistry requirements include General Chemistry I and II with labs. Students select one physics sequence (General Physics or Physics for Scientists and Engineers). Supporting courses include Human Anatomy and Physiology with labs, Precalculus, and General Psychology.In both emphases, foundational courses in anatomy, physiology, and psychology are crucial prerequisites, and students are encouraged to take these early to support success in advanced Exercise Science coursework.
